Emma puts her caring and compassionate qualities to good use by pursuing a career in Healthcare
32-year-old Emma Howard has care in her blood. Her nan was a nurse and her cousin a mental health practitioner, and, after caring for her elderly grandparents until they passed away, Emma knew that a career in care was where she belonged.
Having worked in various sectors previously, firstly as a Personal Trainer and then as a Warehouse Operative, Emma was looking for a role where her caring and compassionate qualities would be put to good use, que a move into the care sector in October 2021.
After securing a role with Caremark Liverpool, an award-winning care provider who offer a range of homecare services from assisting with day-to-day domestic activities to 24/7 live-in care, Emma was quick to jump at the opportunity to work towards achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care. The course, which was fully funded via the Liverpool City Region Adult Education Budget, is designed to support individuals to gain the knowledge and skills that they need to help climb the career ladder, driving social mobility and sector retention.
The course, which is delivered primarily online and lasts for approximately 15 months, offers a flexible study approach for working professionals looking to move on to more senior roles within a care sector.
When talking about how the course helped her, Emma said;
“I found that the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care [was] brilliant. As I mentioned before, I used to be a Personal Trainer and have all of the knowledge of the anatomy and physiology, and with that knowledge it helped me with each piece of work that I put into the course. My tutor Mark was very helpful and supported me in achieving the best work that I could possibly put in, big thanks to him.
“Mark helped me to push further to complete the course with the best grades that I could possibly have got, and I appreciated the feedback that I got with each piece of work. This has given me more confidence to be the best that I can be.”
Emma is just one of several colleagues at Caremark who have chosen to take advantage of this training offer which costs nothing to the employer or learner. When asked if she would recommend the course, Emma remarked that she already has been!
The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care forms part of a suite of free qualifications that Complete Skills Solutions (CSS) offers to the health and social care sector. By working with care providers across the city region who are recruiting, CSS recruit and then deliver all of the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required by employers to kick-start a career in care through their Level 1 Health and Social Care course. Once in post, CSS can then support professional development through their Level 2 Social Care course, where learners also get access to over 125 online social care courses through their sister company, Grey Matter Learning.
