Level 3 Community Health & Wellbeing Worker Apprenticeship

Community health professionals play a key role in improving wellbeing, reducing inequalities, and driving positive change across education, healthcare, housing, and local services. This Level 3 apprenticeship has been specifically developed to support those working in, or looking to work in, roles that champion preventative health and social justice.

Whether you’re just starting out, already supporting individuals and communities, or an employer aiming to build local capacity and engagement, this nationally recognised programme develops skilled, confident professionals who make a real difference on the ground.

As a cost-effective route to workforce development, this apprenticeship also supports stronger partnerships, better access to services, and lasting impact through high-quality, community-focused professional development.

 

How the Apprenticeship Works

Each learner will benefit from:

For Employers

An apprentice is a cost-effective way to upskill your team.

  • If you’re annual wage bill is less than £3 million, you pay £350 towards the costs of this training, with the Government funding the remaining 95%. More information about funding your apprentices can be found here.

Over 12 months, learners will develop the key knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to improve health outcomes and promote wellbeing:

Month 1: Programme Induction & Understanding Your Role
Month 2: Building Community Strength & Resilience
Month 3: Signposting to Local Services and Support
Month 4: Managing Referrals and Multi-Agency Working
Month 5: Behaviour Change and Supporting Healthy Choices
Month 6: Turning Policy into Action in the Community
Month 7: Communicating Effective Health Messages
Month 8: Managing Information and Evaluating Impact
Month 9: Working Legally, Safely and Ethically
Month 10: Reflecting and Planning Your Development
Month 11: Community Health Project – Planning for Impact
Month 12: Community Health Project – Delivery & Reflection

Once qualified, learners may progress to roles and training such as:

  • Community Health & Wellbeing Worker
  • Health Promotion Assistant
  • Social Prescribing Link Worker
  • Youth or Family Support Worker
  • Public Health Outreach Officer
  • Progression to Level 4+ study in health, care or social policy

You’ll be working towards your Level 3 Community Health & Wellbeing Worker Apprenticeship, which can support your career progression once qualified.

If you’re currently employed, your business can use their Apprenticeship Levy to support you in doing this apprenticeship! Or, if they don’t have access to the Levy pot, your employer simply has to pay for 5% of the costs (which works out as £350) and the Government funds the remaining 95%.

 

Are you eligible?

  • Learners must be aged 16+
  • Learners must work at least 30 hours per week in a relevant role
  • Learners must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Learners must not be in full-time education elsewhere
  • Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C) required in English and maths for 16–18-year-olds. Optional for 19+ learners
  • Learners must not already hold a Level 4+ qualification unless it’s unrelated
