Complete Skills Solutions recently announced the Green Energy Skills Bootcamp, launching across the Manchester City Region. The Skills Bootcamp allows eligible learners to undertake free solar training. The training comes with a guaranteed interview with leading employer, Fieldway Group.
Alongside the technical training delivered as part of the Skills Bootcamp, learners get access to bespoke employability training, supporting the enhancement of their CV and mastering interview skills and techniques.
But it’s not just learners who can benefit from this exciting opportunity. This trailblazing project bridges the gap between employers and training providers, cultivating a training programme that provides effective workforce solutions for employers.
Working collaboratively, employers work with Complete Skills Solutions to identify elements they would like included in the Skills Bootcamp curriculum. This can include the likes of technical training qualifications to bolster a sector-specific CV, or interview skills development.
When applying for any job, the interview stage plays a crucial role in the selection process. Many candidates show up to interviews possessing the technical skills required but fall short at the interview as they lack an understanding of what characteristics employers are looking for.
CSS’s unique approach to incorporating pre-employability training to the Skills Bootcamp ensures learners not only develop the technical skills required for a career in solar but acquire the skills to impress at interview.
Earlier this year, Complete Skills Solutions worked in partnership with Complete Training Solutions to deliver a Renewable Energy focused Green Energy Skills Bootcamp. The Skills Bootcamp was delivered in partnership with WindTex Engineering, who offered delegates a guaranteed interview at the end of the course.
Brad Hickman, Managing Director at WindTex, is an advocate for the training programme after seeing first-hand how it can support recruitment for his organisation.
Brad said: “We were really impressed with the calibre of the candidates. They had all been really well prepared and knew a lot about our company and the direction we were going in.”
Out of the 12 learners who took part in the Skills Bootcamp, 11 interviewed with WindTex, and of the 11, five were offered immediate roles, with a further four on standby for their next suitable contract.
Brad admitted that some candidates may have been overlooked in the past, but thanks to the strong emphasis placed on employability training, learners had a greater understanding of WindTex and its business model, culture, and mission.
He said: “In all honestly, we might have overlooked these applicants in the past, so it’s been an eye-opener to us and gives us a lot of confidence in sustaining our business with a strong focus on the recruitment process.”
Brad encouraged other businesses to consider this unorthodox approach to recruitment as a solution to workforce demands. Brad said: “I would recommend this to anyone else in the sector with a growing and ambitious business.
“The fact this service comes without a cost is great too. We have saved thousands in agency costs which can go towards the continued development of our employees.”
Following the huge success of the first Green Energy Skills Bootcamps across the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority earlier this year, we are running another group on December 12th: greenskillsbootcamp.co.uk
