Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer Apprenticeship

Safeguarding professionals play a vital role in protecting individuals and creating safe, supportive environments particularly across education, healthcare, housing and community services. This Level 3 apprenticeship has been specifically developed for those working in early-stage safeguarding roles.

If your already in a role supporting vulnerable individuals, or an employer looking to strengthen your organisation’s safeguarding culture, this nationally recognised programme builds confident, capable professionals equipped to identify, respond to and prevent safeguarding concerns.

As a cost-effective route to developing your team, this apprenticeship also enhances multi-agency working, supports compliance, and strengthens whole organisation safeguarding practices through high-quality professional development.

 

How the Apprenticeship Works

Each learner will benefit from:

For Employers

An apprentice is a cost-effective way to upskill your team.

  • If you’re annual wage bill is less than £3 million, you pay £350 towards the costs of this training, with the Government funding the remaining 95%. More information about funding your apprentices can be found here.

Over 12 months, learners will develop the key knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to manage safeguarding concerns and protect those at risk:

Month 1: Induction and the Role of the Safeguarding Support Officer
Month 2: Safeguarding Principles, Legislation and Guidance
Month 3: Types and Indicators of Abuse and Neglect
Month 4: Digital Safeguarding and Information Governance
Month 5: Multi-agency Working and Escalation Processes
Month 6: Early Intervention, Thresholds and Referral Pathways
Month 7: Risk Assessment and Decision Making
Month 8: Person-Centred Practice and Professional Curiosity
Month 9: Recording, Reporting and Case Management
Month 10: Safeguarding in Context: Settings, Groups and Specific Risks
Month 11: Reflective Practice and Continuous Professional Development
Month 12: End-Point Assessment Preparation and Mock Assessment

Once qualified, learners may progress to roles and training such as:

  • Safeguarding Support Officer
  • Safeguarding Coordinator
  • Early Help Officer
  • Youth or Family Support Worker
  • Progression into DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) roles with further study

You’ll be working towards your Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer Apprenticeship qualification, which can support your career progression once qualified.

If you’re currently employed, your business can use their Apprenticeship Levy to support you in doing this apprenticeship! Or, if they don’t have access to the Levy pot, your employer simply has to pay for 5% of the costs (which works out as £350) and the Government funds the remaining 95%.

 

Are you eligible?

  • Learners must be aged 16+
  • Learners must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Learners must not be in full-time education elsewhere
  • Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C) required in English and maths for 16–18-year-olds. Optional for 19+ learners
