At Complete Skills Solutions, we know that apprenticeships work best when they are shaped around the people and places they serve. That is why we take time to understand every employer’s context, so the training is relevant, practical, and makes a lasting impact.

One organisation we are proud to partner with is Progress Schools, where Managing Director Charlotte Barton has seen first-hand the positive impacts our Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship training has within her school classrooms. For Charlotte, it was crucial that any apprenticeship offered to Progress Schools staff reflected the specific needs of an alternative provision environment. She explains:

“Working with Complete Skills Solutions to deliver the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship for our staff has been a hugely valuable experience. What really set CSS apart was their willingness to tailor the content specifically to the unique context of our alternative provision setting. This meant that the training was immediately relevant, practical, and aligned with the real-world challenges and opportunities our support staff face every day.”

Since embedding the apprenticeship, Charlotte has already seen measurable improvements across the school community. She went on to say:

“As a result, we have seen a clear improvement in the confidence, skillset, and overall quality of support offered by our teaching assistants. The programme has helped to professionalise and uplift the role, with staff better equipped to meet the needs of our students.”

The apprenticeship has not only empowered staff but also ensured that students receive higher-quality support making a tangible difference day to day.

Charlotte was also keen to praise our flexible, collaborative approach, noting that:

“CSS have been responsive, flexible, and committed to making a real difference—and we are already seeing the impact across the school. We look forward to continuing our partnership.”

A key strength of the programme is the focus on specialist modules for Alternative Provision and supporting learners with SEND. These dedicated elements help apprentices build the practical skills and confidence needed to work effectively with students who have additional needs or who thrive in non-mainstream settings. By exploring strategies for inclusive practice, communication, and tailored learning support, the Alternative Provision and SEND modules ensure every learner receives the right guidance to succeed.

The success of the Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at Progress Schools shows how tailoring training to context can have a truly transformative effect. Alongside the Teaching Assistant programme, we now offer the Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer and Level 3 Health & Wellbeing Worker apprenticeships, giving staff the chance to build on existing skills and broaden their professional development even further.
