Build your core maths skills and knowledge

Our free Functional Skills Maths courses gives you the ability to develop your skills in mathematics in order to help you gain the most from work, education, and everyday life. These Functional Skills Maths courses are available at different levels to suit your ability, and each one is designed to equip you with the core mathematical skills needed in everyday life. The level of the course will depend on your prior skills, knowledge and qualifications.

The course is suitable for you if you want to become confident in your use of fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills. Our Functional Skills Maths qualifications will support you to demonstrate your understanding by applying your knowledge and skills to solve simple mathematical problems or carry out simple tasks.

At the end of the course, you will complete an assessment which will require you to apply skills-based and problem-solving.

This qualification is delivered online one evening a week over 12 weeks. Weeks 11 and 12 are exam prep time.

What is the end outcome?

Learners will work towards achieving a City and Guilds Maths qualification at either Entry level 3, level 1 or Level 2.

At the end of the course, you will complete an assessment that consists of two parts:

The Calculator section
The Non-calculator section

Am I guaranteed a job at the end?

The aim of this course is to improve your numeracy skills, allowing you to access one of our further courses, many of which have links to live local jobs.

Are you eligible?

Age 19+
If unemployed must be in receipt of state benefits (UC/JSA/ESA/Income Support)
If employed must be earning less than £33,958.60
