Liverpool headquartered adult education training provider, Complete Skills Solutions, have recently become a Disability Confident Committed employer, a step that showcases their committed to attracting the very best talent, regardless of disability.

Disability Confident is made up of three levels, Committee, Confident Employer and Confident Leader. Employers must achieve each level fully before moving onto the next. Backed by the Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work, the commitment is a clear sign to people with disabilities that a business recognises and values the skills and knowledge they can bring to a business.

Broken into five commitments, to become a Disability Confident employer, businesses must ensure that the recruitment process is inclusive and accessible, communicate and promote vacancies across a range of channels, offer an interview to disabled people, anticipate and provide reasonable adjustments as required, and support any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work.

When asked why joining the Disability Confident movement was so important, Managing Director Ian Green said:

“As a business we have always been fully committed to supporting individuals to get back into work. It’s what the foundation of our training delivery is built on, and we have supported countless individuals with disabilities over the years to access not only our skill-specific training, but also to support them to find a positive next step. But we wanted to do more for our own colleagues and demonstrate to them, and potential recruits, that we care as much about them as we do our learners.

“We set ourselves on the journey to becoming Disability Confident last year when we recognised just how competitive the job market was. 10% of our colleague base have a disability, and we completely recognise and value the contributions they make, so why would we not want to captivate on that more by removing any potential barriers for individuals? We wanted to carve out a point of differentiation to a perspective candidate, but at the same time, we wanted to achieve some recognition for the work we were already doing. Getting involved in the Disability Confident movement gave us both.”

Complete Skills Solutions plan to continue championing disability awareness and support in the workplace through their work both with their colleagues and the individuals who they support via their training offer.
