Paul built a 19-year career in retail, slowly progressing through the ranks until he chose to put his career on hold to become a full-time Carer for his mum. Sadly, she passed away, leaving Paul to rebuild his life through the grief.
However, Paul didn’t let his grief hold him back. At 45, Paul chose the difficult decision of starting over. Proactively, Paul went to the Job Centre to help set him in the right direction. Through his coach, he found Complete Skills Solutions and applied to some courses in the digital contact centre sector. Paul commented about his time on the course: “I really enjoyed it and feel like it helped me develop as a person, not just give me a set of skills.” He attributed a lot of this personal growth and learning to how fantastic his tutor was throughout the course.
Following completion, Paul successfully received an interview and secured employment with Bullen Healthcare as a Personal Customer Advisor. Paul oversees a diary of patients that he monitors and keeps up to date with supplies and some medications. During the course, Paul was able to redevelop his customer service skills from his time in retail, and gain vital problem-solving and transferrable skills that he can now apply to his current role. By developing these skills and knowledge, alongside his personal development during the course, Paul believes this mix played a significant role that led him to employment.
“The variation in learning was fantastic and an essential attribute to the course. It was far beyond just writing in a book, the course involved seminars and was very interactive, it got us talking, thinking, developing, all contributing to the learning experience.”
When asked if he would recommend Complete Skills Solutions to others looking to improve their qualifications, Paul responded with an enthusiastic, “Yes 1000%”. Continuing, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Complete Skills, and I am very grateful for the aspects of learning and development I managed to take away!”
Paul is now 5 months into a 6-month probationary period, working his way towards what he hopes will be his full-time employment. A stellar example of how it is never too late to start something new. Paul chose a career in an area he was a novice in, a choice many would fear to make. However, through the support of his coach at the Job Centre, his tutor on the Digital Contact course and his own personal belief in himself, Paul has forged a new career and, following a period of darkness, a brighter future for himself.
