Lisa is one of our dedicated Health and Social Care trainers at Complete Skills Solutions, committed to supporting others as they gain knowledge in the field. Being with us for just over two years, she has encouraged our learners with her positive attitude, commitment to the role, and patient approach, which combined, allows our learners to grow and develop.

With a breadth of knowledge in the education industry, Lisa has gained a number of transferrable skills that support her in her current position. From working as a Drama Teacher, a Safeguarding Officer, to a Personal and Social Development Leader in Prisons, Lisa’s experience is impressive. The skills and experiences she has gained on her journey has led her to specialising in Health and Social Care. Lisa discussed the main draw that has kept her in her current role, “Every day is different, and I find it extremely rewarding”.

Early passion for education

From a young age, Lisa has been passionate about supporting others. She discussed how education was a way for her to continue to help others with their personal challenges. She attributes her passion for education to her own struggles with learning when she was growing up. Finding most areas of education difficult, she had almost given up, until she found performing arts. By finding a form of education she excelled in and enjoyed, renewed Lisa’s desire to learn and achieve.

As Lisa progressed in her own educational journey, she learnt new strategies and developed her confidence, allowing her to overcome many of the barriers that originally held her back. This later sparked inspiration for how to help others who struggle whilst learning as well. Lisa had found her niche and went on to achieve a BA honours degree in Music and Drama.

Supporting young people on their journey

From this, Lisa went on to teach Drama and Musical theatre to children and young people. She found that, not only was she able to develop their performance skills but she was able to build their confidence and self-esteem. Lisa found this “really rewarding” and it encouraged her to continue with teaching and achieve a post-graduate in education.

Lisa continued to work with young people and found that she was particularly good at supporting them on their journey in reaching their full potential. She felt that “a huge part of this was because I was able to reflect on my own journey and challenges and put myself in their shoes” and she is proud of the distance she has travelled over her journey within education.

This journey is far from over though, as Lisa expanded and developed her skills through many other roles both within and outside of the education sector. Lisa found it difficult to pinpoint one past experience that she favoured above the rest, saying that each role “made an impact on my career”. From supporting fathers inside Prison and their families, to maintaining that the personal needs of young people were being met, each role has been an opportunity for growth. Through her expansive background, Lisa has found that “not only can one of your learners achieve academically but that education can enrich their lives.”

Current role and future goals

Lisa then progressed to her current role as a Health and Social Care trainer. She comments, “I thoroughly enjoy my role and have had many opportunities to be involved in other areas of delivery and to build on my professional development”. Her goals for the future are to continue to grow her skills and knowledge in Health and Social Care, allowing her to be able to further support learners on their journey and achieve positive outcomes.

For others who aspire to start a career in education or Health and Social Care, Lisa advises that you “keep an open mind about your journey” and to “take opportunities to try new things as it might just be right for you”.

Lisa’s passion for supporting others, fuelled by her own struggles and triumphs, has guided her through various roles within the education sector and beyond and we are delighted that she is now applying all of that experience within our classrooms. Her diverse experiences demonstrate the importance of embracing opportunities for growth and remaining adaptable when it comes to pursuing a career, which is something we massively champion here at Complete Skills Solutions with our learners. Well done Lisa, keep up the hard work.
