What do the stats say about working from home…
FlexJobs completed a survey between February 23, 2022, and March 7, 2022, which showed a whopping 77% of people surveyed choose remote working as the second highest compensation and benefit that was important to them.
The FlexJobs annual survey also revealed that 44% of respondents said they know at least one person who has quit or planning to quit because their employers are requiring them to work from the office.
Most interestingly, 24% of workers said the ability to work from home is so important to them that they would be willing to take a 10-20% pay cut for the luxury of remote working, and 21% would give up some holiday time.
So, let’s break it down. What are the true benefits of working from home?
1. Better Work-life Balance
Working from home offers a level of flexibility that you just don’t get at the office. With extra flexibility, it’s no surprise people see positive changes in their work-life balance. Your personal life is just as important as your work life, so striking the perfect balance is essential.
Whether you need to drop the kids at school or fancy a walk in the park during your lunch hour, working from home allows you additional privileges.
2. Cost Savings
Given the current climate, saving a few extra pounds on commuting goes a long way. Daily commutes can add up and become quite costly but working from home can reduce that and provide significant cost savings.
On average, workers will save £44.78 a week by cutting out things like commuting and buying lunch out.
But it’s not just employees who can save on costs. By adopting a remote working culture, businesses can save on gas, electric, maintenance, and even rent payments. Working from home could even be a long-term solution to economic issues.
3. Choose your own Workspace
The right workspace can make all the difference. Whether you opt for a makeshift desk or a self-assembly Ikea desk, the choice is yours.
We have a few tips for setting up the perfect workspace:
- Create a dedicated workspace that is free from distractions.
- Make sure you get a chair that offers support. Long days at your desk can be taxing on your back, so a comfortable and supportive chair is essential.
- Add some personality! A succulent, quirky ornament, or even a cool poster.
4. Productivity
Offices can often be very ‘hustle and bustle’ with conversations and meetings so it can be difficult to completely focus. When working from home, you can reduce the number of distractions and really focus on the task at hand.
The quiet and zen of working from home can help the creative juices flow and increase productivity. According to stats from Finder.com, 68% of people feel more productive working from home due to fewer distractions.
5. Location
In the past, people have had to leave their hometowns to find jobs, but with remote working employees can work from anywhere.
Now we are not saying working from home is for everyone, and in some industries, it is not possible but for those who have the option, working from home comes up trumps.
